The major battle is never outside but inside, what I mean to share is that while we are programmed to be social animals; the current times are forcing us to make amends to our process. Social Distancing!
A temporary but needed solution is giving rise to another problem. Seclusion!
The mind is an active part of our body and plays an even bigger role in our stability both mentally and physically.
Are we then prepared for such a situation?
The obvious answer is no, we are not. There are many things we had planned to do in this period and now we are sitting idle at home, or playing on the mobile or WhatsApp games with our friends. The question is are we safe in our homes?
This may sound prudent in times that are obvious but this is what is happening.
Getting bored?
Netflix and Prime may be the main source of entertainment but the trend of getting bored with something is there in our genes and as much as we would like to be consistent with our processes, a change is always needed.
Our minds are today locked between walls, with the lockdown in progress, we have another many day to go before this subsides. Economies will fall, the business will close, work will take a back seat.
What is more worrying is that the mind will get lazy and not be able to cope with work, we will not know what to do when we have stagnated our minds for a long time, there will be a transition that would be required for getting us back into the routine, what can we do?
Keep the mind active
Keeping the mind active has many positive aspects to it, including keeping a healthy mind and a body too. Here are some activities that can keep your mind active and running.
Maintain an Exercising Schedule
Your mind is living in its castle, the body. When the body is kept active the mind is also active, not saying it makes you smarter, just Active! There are simple exercises that people of all ages can do and it’s available online, I am not going to reinvent the wheel and start a new trend of exercises. The internet has a lot of options if you just search for them
The exercise has to be broken down in parts of the day. You are not going to do a 2 hours routine and then rest it out. Break down your routines to shorter bits and spread it through the day. This way you will maintain discipline and your body will also be active to support your mind
Play with puzzles
Puzzles are a good way to keep your mind active, the more difficult the better. But we are not in a competition here so relax and play it for fun but yet make it a learning process. There are many options available online use it wisely.
Puzzles that help your solve problems are the best way to keep the mind busy as it is being pushed to do what it does best, Think!
Clear the Clutter
We always are cribbing for time not being in our hands to do what we liked, you have a house that can use some of your time. Clear the clutter in the corners of your house, organize your drawers, clear the stuff that is not required or find a book and start reading it again.
There will be areas in the house where you were not able to think of things existing, will be a good treasure hunt to find what was never thought of!
Discipline yourself
If you have been a procrastinator and have been delaying things in your life for the need of an excuse; take this time to make the amends. Start with small tasks that are a teaser and build it up to the most difficult tasks to achieve your goals. Remember you are not in a race but a change that will help you make the amends that your body needs.
Start with making a schedule to wake up and sleep, take your naps on the scheduled time and sleep as it was a regular day, wake up as a regular day and follow the same routines as you would have. This will help you be in a routine and make the best of the time in hand. You are in for a great development in your life!
Eat Healthily
The biggest challenge in these times is the supply for fresh greens, vegetables, and grocery items. What we need to do is also eat healthy as we are not going to burn a lot of calories, and our diet will be the one to keep us active or lethargic. What we eat is how we act!
There are many things to be aware of in eating, avoid the foods that make your lethargic and eat foods that keep you active. No Rice does not make you lethargic if had in the right quantities and you will not get strong by having a high protein diet. Have a balanced diet with more carbohydrates and vitamins that proteins and fat. This will keep your mind and body alert and provide you with a conscious mind to do all the other tasks mentioned above.
Get a Counsellor
If all the above is still not functional and you are struggling to get your life into a discipline and cannot change your ways but understand that you need help. Then it is good to reach out to a counselor and take help and guidance while you have the time.
You can schedule your appointment online and our counselors will call you to speak with you at the scheduled time selected. That way you will have all the support you need to sail through these trying times. And become the self that you always wanted but didn’t know how to get there!
